Joye A. Slocum, 94, of Topeka, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, November 17, 2023.

She was born January 4, 1929, in Nortonville, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Sylvia (Brunkow) Nieman.
Joye graduated from Seaman High School in 1947.

She started out her career as a teller with Merchants National Bank. She later went to work at the Shawnee County Treasury office for over 20 years until her retirement.

Faith was important to Joye. She was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She was very active and faith driven in the the women’s group known as Owls. Many of her friendships were formed within her church community.

Joye was a huge KU Jayhawk fan. She would suite up to watch football and basketball games.

Family gatherings were very important to her. She will be remembered for her cookie baking and candies and her treasured baptismal blankets for each grandchild.

Joye married Orwin “Newt” Slocum on March 4, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2014. She is survived by her children, Rick (Cindy) Slocum of Pace, FL, Bryan (Ramona) Slocum of Springhill, KS, and Janelle Slocum of Topeka; sister, Carol Portanova of Lakewood, CO; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orwin “Newt” Slocum; parents, Albert and Sylvia Nieman; daughter, Belinda Sue Slocum; grandsons, Thomas K. Slocum and Travis Tichenor and her brother, Don Nieman.

The family will greet family and friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Parker-Price 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Calvary Lutheran Church 4211 NW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66617. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
