Charlotte “Charlie” Lorraine (Scofield) Burton, 69, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born May 25, 1953, in Belleville, Kansas, the daughter of Elwin and Ellen (Levendofsky) Scofield. Charlotte graduated from Belleville High School in 1971. After graduation, she attended Cloud County Community College.

Charlie dedicated 20 years to the Cotton O'Neil Heart Center working as Dr. Steve Watkins Medical Assistant. As one of her beloved colleagues stated, “She kept everyone in the ultrasound department in line & everything running smoothly”, which was echoed by the many other colleagues that she loved as much as they loved her. She poured her heart into her work & it showed. The Heart Center was an all around better place because of Charlie & her heart for people.

She attended services at Fellowship Bible Church & rarely missed an episode of the faith based podcast, ‘Arise’ with Amber. Charlie was an active volunteer with Midland Hospice and helped with the bereavement and grief support groups. She enjoyed attending the Midland Celebration Walks.

After her daughter, Amber, passed away in 2011, she dedicated her life to raising Amber’s son, Hunter. She was a “Band Mom”, proudly supporting the Washburn Rural High School Band. Hunter is, was, & always will be Charlotte’s pride & joy.

In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed watching murder mysteries and crime shows. She rarely missed Dateline & often called her children to make sure they were watching as well. Her son-in-law, Caleb, was her crime show buddy. They once spent an entire weekend binge watching their favorites, trying to solve them by bouncing theories off one another. Her all time favorite football team was the Denver Broncos. She loved football & knew more about the sport than most men. Often updating her kids if their teams were winning or losing. Always quick to share a word of encouragement or trash talk depending on the game. She loved road-trips, live music, including many concerts, from Alabama to Red Dirt country to Tracy Chapman, singing, dancing, laughing, Colorado & the mountains, fresh air, gardening, McDonald’s Ice Tea, & the simple things in life. She lived for her family. Always taking one day at a time. The first to show up, serve, & champion those she loved along the way. Charlotte’s #1 goal, was to see her grandson, Hunter, graduate from high school. Though our hearts are shattered, she’s no longer with us, we have complete confidence, she’ll now have the best seat in the house. Cheering him on along side his beloved Mom & Papa Jack.

Charlotte leaves behind her children, Jeremy Foerschler, Noah (Jennifer) Burton, and Heidi (Caleb) Kelly; her beloved grandchildren, Hunter Burton, Makayla Kelly, Sullivan Kelly, Prosper Kelly, Addison Henshaw, Ranger Burton, Christian Boyce and Aminah Foerschler; mother, Ellen Scofield; her siblings, Carolyn Conwell, Sue (Gary) Bowman, Le (Tim) Sankey, Jo Ann (Ken) Gurley, Gary (Lori) Scofield and Jayme Scofield. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amber Burton; her brother-in-law, Gene Conwell; her father & hero, Elwin F. Scofield; and her ex-husband, yet lifelong friend, Jack Burton. Their love for their grandson & parallel cancer battles gave them a renewed understanding, compassion, & consideration for one another later in life. God used challenging circumstances to redeem & restore their friendship. Proving HE can & will use what the enemy intends for bad, for our good & HIS glory.

Immediate Family, Please join us, Thursday, May 25th @ 3pm for fellowship & prayer at The Scofield Family Homestead in Belleville, KS.

Friends & Family, Please join us, Saturday, May 27th @ 1pm at The Gage Park Amphitheater in Topeka, KS for fellowship, prayer, & a balloon release.

If you are unable to attend, please plant a flower or tree in loving memory of our Mom. She planted many seeds in her 69 years on this earth. We are confident God will continue to nurture & harvest those seeds in HIS perfect time. She once shared a fond memory from her youth about planting Pansies in the Springtime on the family homestead with her father which inspired this idea. We can't think of a more appropriate way to honor her, than by encouraging those she loved to 'plant' something in loving memory of her. Thanks so much in advance!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” ‭‭•Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬•

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte’s grandson Hunter to help with his future endeavors via his Venmo @hunyre.
