Edwin Jay “Ed” Carleton, 93, of Denison, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

He was born December 20, 1929, in Coldwater, Kansas, the son of James W. and Anna (Taylor) Carleton. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School and attended Kansas State University.

Ed was employed by the Rock Island Railroad for many years and then the Kyle Railroad, until retiring.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #1528, Lions Club of Goodland, Kansas and a volunteer with the Sherman County Fair Board. He was also a former Councilman and previously served as Mayor of Goodland.

Ed married Bonnie Walker on December 20, 1950 at Goodland KS. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia C. Budge of Conroe, TX and Mona J. (Larry) Werner of Claremore, OK; 4 grandchildren, Steve (Cheryl) Budge, Tara Werner, Wes (Sarah) Werner and Wendy (Trent) Winings; 12 great-grandchildren, Brayden Stirman, Anne Budge, Abigail Budge, Hannah Deegan, Shea Deegan, Ethan Deegan, Justin (Lisa) Werner, Hillary Werner, Zachary Werner, Calista, Blake and Blaire Winings; and 3 great great-grandchildren, Brinley, Addisyn and Cross Werner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Scott Webb; eight siblings and his son-in-law, Marc Budge.

Ed enjoyed woodworking, traveling, reading, fishing and jigsaw puzzles.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. Graveside Services will be held at a later date. Interment of ashes will be at Goodland Cemetery, Goodland, KS. Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in Topeka, Kansas is assisting the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Goodland Lion’s Club Scholarship Fund, Ed Carleton Memorial at 3691 S Hwy 27, Goodland, KS 67735.
