In Memory Of
Richard Douglas Moore
1958 - 2023

Richard Douglas Moore, 64, of Topeka, passed away in the early morning hours while surrounded by family on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He left us after a long battle with chronic illnesses followed by a broken heart from losing his lovely wife of 43 years in February of 2022.

He was born October 5, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Lloyd “Blackie” and Phyllis (Nickeson) Moore. He attended schools in Topeka, including Clay Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and Topeka High. He lettered in tumbling, track, football, wrestling, and basketball. He received his Master Plumbers license in 1981 and was a true jack of all trades, including being a mechanic, handyman, and builder.

Rick had fond memories of his childhood, which was filled with wrestling and chasing his brothers and playing baseball with his brothers and neighborhood friends. He was the youngest of 5 siblings and was well protected and well loved. He had fond memories of summers spent at the baseball fields with his entire family.

He started a plumbing business called Moore Plumbing and after a few years he chose to move his family to Arizona to join his brothers in the car business. He later decided he was too blue collar for the car business and moved back to Kansas where he went on to work as a pipefitter at Goodyear, where he worked for 28 years. He had a close group of friends, which made work enjoyable.

Rick married his high school sweetheart, Sharon, on October 13, 1978. They enjoyed motorcycle rides, good music, vacations to Beaver Lake, and playing cards. He always said his greatest accomplishment was raising his kids. Around the table at family dinners he would always say, “It doesn’t get any better than this.” He always made those around him laugh. He was the best storyteller and was always good for a dirty joke. In his final year, a lot of time was spent in hospitals, where he never lost his sense of humor and would get the nurses and therapist laughing with jokes and pranks.

Survivors include his children, Christine (Shay) Lewis and Cyrus (Jenn) Moore; grandchildren, Landen and Tayler Moore, Sophia, Cale, and Miles Lewis; siblings, Steve Moore, Jerry (Julie) Moore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Axelton) Moore; siblings, Marcene and Dana Moore; parents, Blackie and Phyllis Moore.
In lieu of flowers or donations, put your money towards a round of drinks at your next Happy Hour. Share a story, raise a glass, and join in on some laughter at Rick’s expense.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5-7pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS, 66608.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10am on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Parker-Price. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
