Darlene L. Meier
1935 - 2023

Darlene (Miles) Meier, age 87, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at The Neuvant House of Lawrence Kansas. Darlene was born September 8, 1935 in Topeka to Vera M Miles. For a time, she was cared for by her Maternal Grandparents Winslow and Rosa (Krapp) Miles. Even after Rosa’s death in 1938, Winslow would continue to be a loving Father figure to Darlene until his death in 1988. Darlene Married Casper "Jack" Meier on April 13, 1953 in Topeka with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2016.

Darlene overcame great adversity in her childhood to build a beautiful life together with her beloved Jack. Darlene spent her years as a homemaker and Mother to her children, Lawrence E. Meier and Deborah (Steven) Fisher both of Topeka. She was unquestionably the CEO of their home while Jack operated a successful trucking business that would become Meier's Ready Mix in Topeka. The place Darlene truly shined, however, was as a Grandmother to her three Grandchildren Melissa (Shawn) Johnson of Topeka, Justin (Katie) Fisher of Silver Lake and Chad (Kristin) Fisher of Topeka. She most enjoyed Sunday dinners with family, a good game of dominoes, pitch or any other time spent around the table in her home. Darlene also loved music, often you would find her singing, humming or dancing her way through her day. There wasn't a birthday celebrated by any in her family during which she wasn't the loudest singer nor a Christmas in which she wasn't caroling through her home. Even as dementia robbed her of her memory, her love of music was present to the end.

Darlene was preceded in death by her Mother (Vera); Grandparents, Winslow and Rosa Miles, five half siblings; Charles Brumley, Billy Bob Brumley, Jeanine Brumley and Ada Marie Brumley. As well as 3 sister-in-laws; 4 brother-in-laws; and her beloved husband, Jack. She is survived by her two children; 3 Grandchildren; 10 Great-Grandchildren as well as a half-brother Lyle Brumley; 3 sister-in-laws; 2 brother-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will greet friends on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Parker Price Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Graveside service will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America and sent in care of Post Office Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 or to the Good Shepherd Hospice and sent in care of 123 W Kansas Ave, Independence, MO 64050.
