John H. Kessinger, 83, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

He was born July 2, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Orren E. and Sophie A. (Smutny) Kessinger. He was a graduate of Hayden High School and attended Farrier School in Wyoming. He served in the United States Army.

John was employed as a surveyor for Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineers in Topeka until retiring.

He was an active member of Capital City Gun Club in Topeka.

John married Margaret “Gean” Bowser October 18, 1977. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2002. Survivors include his sister, Nancy J. Derrington; his nieces and nephews, Christopher Derrington, Patrick (Natasha) Derrington, Jennifer (Troy) Caudel; and his great niece and nephew, Riley and Berkley Allen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Linda M. Ciskey on August 6, 2020.

John enjoyed the outdoors, especially Trap Shooting and hunting.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. John’s family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until Noon, Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Private inurnment will be at Rochester Cemetery next to his wife.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Gun Club, 12200 NW 4th St, Topeka, KS 66615 or to the Lupus Foundation of America, Heartland Chapter, 8050 Watson, Road, Suite 169, St. Louis, MO 63119.
