Doris R. Miles, 99, of Topeka, passed away on September 16, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on November 20, 1922 to Ray and Millicent (Lawton) Kirkwood on a farm near Topeka, Kansas.

Doris was educated in the country schools graduating from Silver Lake High School in 1941. She participated in drama and sports, lettering all 4 years in basketball. Doris married Vernon Gail Miles on April 6, 1946 at Seaman Congregational Church. Together they had one daughter, Barbara.

In their early married life, Doris and Gail became charter members of Frances Loomis Dance Band, Gail on drums, Doris on the upright Bass. Until his death in December 2015, they enjoyed working together building the homes they lived in and helping family and friends with various projects.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Lon) Kruger of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Ciklin of Dorado, Puerto Rico and Kevin Kruger (Allison), of Las Vegas, NV; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Wyatt and Cole Ciklin; Cameron and Vivienne Kruger; sister, Frances Ferguson of Edmond, OK and brother, Bob Kirkwood of Topeka, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gail; parents Ray and Millie Kirkwood; siblings Dee Kirkwood, Nina Wolford, and Dale Kirkwood.

Reception with visitation for family and friends will be held at Parker-Price Funeral Home on Monday, September 26 at 11:00 am. Funeral service will start at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, Nevada (www.nah.org: click "Make A Donation" in memory of Doris Miles) or to your favorite charity.
