She was born December 7, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of George and Ella (Schendel) Rice. She was a 1941 graduate of Meriden High School.
She was a member of Meriden Community Church, and the Meriden “Get Together” garden club and former member of TARC.
Edna married Ronald Fanning on February 19, 1944 at the Seaman Congregational Church parsonage. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1998.
Survivors include three children, Gary (Marcia) Fanning of Derby, KS, Dr. Robert “Bob” (Peggy) Fanning of Wamego, KS and Ronda (John) Stadler of Tecumseh, KS; 10 grandchildren; Joe (Valerie), Meaghan (Andy), Kasey (Dustin), John (Kate), Jonathan, Rochelle, Preston (Jessica), Joshua (Miranda), January (Bryan) and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Ella, Landon, Drew, Weston, Haydon, Addison, Parker, Garrett, Paige, Elliott, Liam, Kiley, Madison, Emma, Victoria, Alexander, Emile, Charley, Blakely Paige, Avery, Grace and Michael; sister-in-law, Margaret Fanning of Lakin, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two of her children, sons Merlyn (Butch) and William (Bill) Fanning; her parents, George Cam Rice and Ella Schendel Rice; her sister, Grace Parks and three brothers, Shirley, Norris and Clarence “Bud” Rice.
Edna enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens, embroidering, making pies and being with family members and friends.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Meriden Community Church, 200 Dawson St, Meriden, KS 66512. Burial will follow at Grantville Cemetery, Grantville, KS.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 p.m., Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Meriden Community Church.
