1940 - 2022

Lawrence “Larry” D. Smith, 81, of Topeka went to meet his Heavenly Father on June 20th, 2022. Larry was born on August 27th, 1940 to Carl & Mereda (Friesen) Smith. Larry was raised in Topeka by his mother Mereda and Charles C. Taylor. He would graduate from Topeka High School in 1958. Following high school, Larry attended Clark’s Business College, graduating with a diploma in Accounting in 1960.

A skilled computer operator and programmer, Larry was employed with Merchants National Bank from 1960, until his retirement in 1993. Even after retirement, Larry continued to write and develop computer programs, even after losing his vision. Alongside working with computers, Larry was known for spending time with his friends and family. He was also a lifelong member of Oakland Presbyterian Church.

Larry is preceded in passing by his parents, and his brother, Lyle Smith. Surviving Larry is his daughter, Lisa (Tim) Oathout, and two grandchildren, David & Hannah Oathout.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1st, from 5-7pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30pm, Saturday, July 2nd. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family asks that a mask be worn for those in attendance. Memorial Contributions can be made to Jamie’s Wish Foundation (Jamieswish.org).
