1942 - 2022

Walter “Vern” Vernon Slater, 79, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved
ones on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

He was born June 17, 1942, in Los Angeles, California. HIs father was Walter Vernon Slater Sr. and his
mother was Charlotte (Rupnik) Slater. After graduating high school, Vern joined the United States Navy.
During his service time in the US Navy, he was a personal driver to Cabinet Members of The White
House. After his honorable discharge from the military, he went on to graduate from Bible College in
New York.

He worked for a time protecting communities as a fireman in the state of California and later in life was a
carpenter. He also enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed being active and staying fit. His hobbies included
mountain climbing, cycling, working out and spending time outdoors.

Vern had a passion for spreading God’s Word. He taught prophecy at Jefferson Assembly of God. He
founded Flame of Fire Church in Topeka, KS in 2016 with his wife, Geri, where they worked together
building the Kingdom Of God. His life was dedicated to the ministry of God’s Word. He not only studied
and taught The Word of God, He was a true living example of that Word!

Vern married Juldean "Geri" Reeves on August 21, 2013 in Topeka, Kansas. Survivors include his wife
Geri; five children, Peter Slater, Peggy Slater Young, Mary Normandin, Seth Slater, Walter V Slater III; six step
children, Stacy Smith, Joseph Lewis, Alexander Lancaster, Timothy Lancaster, Stephen Garner Jr, and
Jeffrey Garner; Sister, Peggy Slater. He was also survived by many loving grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathy Slater McNeeley and Janice Slater Nikodem; one brother,William Slater.

Honoring Vern’s wishes, cremation is planned. A celebration of his life with military honors will be held at
10:00am on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka,
Kansas 66608. In his honor, memorial contributions may be made to Pastor Juldean "Geri" Slater, Flame of Fire
Church, 235 SE Lime, Topeka, Kansas.
