Michael Lee Schaefer
1950 - 2022

Michael Lee Schaefer, 71, of Hoyt, passed away on January 25, 2022 at St. John Hospital.

He was born on May 27, 1950 to Robert and Eleanor (Sheridan) Schaefer at Ellsworth, Kansas.
He graduated from Holyrood High School in 1968. He then graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1974.

Michael taught at Royal Valley High School from 1974-1979, where he was a math teacher. He also coached football and basketball. After teaching he started working as a Lab Tech for Jeffrey Energy Center where later he earned the title of Chemist before retiring in 2014.

On August 8, 1974, he married Vicki Schaefer (Peden) in Hoyt, Kansas.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to bird watch, fish, yard work, gardening, and picking up sticks. He also made sure all of his kids cars were taken care of and ready to drive. Later in life he enjoyed taking care of his daughters horses. Michael loved to spend time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, spoiling them to no end. He would take them fishing, horse back riding, walks through the field, and to Gambino's for pudding every Friday night. He would occasionally be found sharing his ice cream with them as well.

Michael is survived by his spouse, Vicki; children, Jessica (Patrick) Wiech, Robert (Susan) Schaefer, Jaime Cowan, and Kelly (Robert) Abbey; Granddaughter, Alyssa Lee Smith; mother, Eleanor Bach; siblings, Daniel (Gayle) Schaefer, Ellen (Rick) Roehrman, Dianna (Mike) Vanek, and James (Katy) Bach; sisters-in-law, Debbie Bach and Linda Bach; 5 Grandsons, 9 Granddaughters; step siblings, Pamela Fleming, Buddy Bisterfeldt, Carla Lamb, and Joyce Gunning.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Schaefer; brothers, Doug Bach and Danny Bach; step father, Frank Bach; and step mother, Norma Schaefer.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2022, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home.
