She was born on January 29, 1941 to Marvin and Marcella (Alsup) Shields in Palestine, AR.
Betty started working for the State of Kansas in 1979 and later became the President for Kansas Association of Public Employees until she retired after over 26 years of work.
On January 1, 1959, Betty married John R. Vines in Topeka, Kansas at Forbes Air Force Base. They later divorced.
She attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. Betty enjoyed bowling and traveling in her bowling league. She also loved to knit, crochet, sew, and make ceramics. She loved to be outside and work in her yard gardening and she had a special place in her heart for her two fur babies.
Betty is survived by her loving son, Marvin "Marty" (Debby) Vines; sisters, Mary (Marshall) McLin and Lou Ann (Marvin) Godfrey; grandchildren, Sabre Skjervem and Amber Skjervem; great grandchildren, Grayson & Emilia, nieces and nephews, Kim (Barton) Egger, Denise (Curt) Epperson, Susan (Robert) Mast, Michael (Lyndsee) McLin, and Leslie (Bruce) Arbuthnot; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and her brother, Marvin Dennis Shields.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home. Rosary will be prayed at 2:30 pm. Funeral service will follow starting at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice.
