Charles B. Wurtz, 75, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022.

He was born November 15, 1946, in Clifton, Kansas, the son of Gerald Louis and Edmay Agnes (Racette) Wurtz. He attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Newberry, Kansas and Paxico High School.

Chuck managed the Skelly Service station in Paxico in his earlier years. He managed, later purchasing and operating the VIP Red Carpet Car Wash until retiring.

He was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka.

Chuck married Nancy Burlew in March of 1965. They were married for over 30 years, later divorced and she preceded him in death. Survivors include his spouse of 24 years, Pam Karns of Topeka; five children, Marla Wurtz, Allen (Elissa) Wurtz, Bryan (Bridgid) Wurtz, Kara (Ed) Stanley and Lindsey (Rory) Brees; all of Topeka; his grandchildren, Cate Wurtz and Logan Cottrell, Justin (Nena) Hug, Jordan (Shelby) Martinez, Brandon Wurtz, Aaron Wurtz, Miranda Wurtz, Bryan Wurtz, Jr., Cody Wurtz and Danny Wurtz, Skyler Stanley, Tayler (Chandler) Bush, Cameron Stanley and Adyson Stanley, Taylor Brees, Lauryn Brees and Aubrey Brees; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Jack (Dorothy) Wurtz of Clyde, KS, Derald Wurtz of Neosho Falls, KS, Sharon McDaniel of Topeka, Larry (Donna) Wurtz of Columbia, SC, Trudy (Joe Weir) O’Shea-Weir of Topeka; his sister-in-law Berniece Wurtz of Clifton, KS and Carolyn Wurtz of Paxico; and his canine companion, Libby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Donald Wurtz, James Wurtz, Evelyn (Warren) Hedke and Mary (Martin) Parmenter; and his sister-in-law, Marie Wurtz.

Chuck enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, hunting, fishing, supporting charities, was a “Jack of all Trades” and an avid Chiefs and K-State fan.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman, Topeka, KS 66616. Cremation will follow the Mass. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
