Darlene M. Dennis, 88, of Topeka, passed away on November 26, 2021 at Aldersgate Village.

She was born on December 18, 1932 to Lester and Hazel (Slusher) Simmons in Topeka, KS.

Darlene worked as a LPN for Topeka State Hospital for over 19 years before retiring. She enjoyed piloting hot air balloons, quilting with her daughters, and camping at Lake Pomona. Darlene also loved to read fiction thriller books and do crafts. She had a special bond with her oldest daughter. They enjoyed traveling together to places like Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, and New Orleans. She also loved to attend the Kansas City Renaissance Festival with her family. She learned belly dancing and cake design as well. She was a member of Elks Lodge, the Quilters Guild, and was a Cub Scout den mother.

On August 10, 1949, she married LeRoy M. Dennis in Topeka at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Darlene is survived by her children, LeRoy (Michele) M. Dennis, Jr., Lester (Jacquelyn) E. Dennis, Arelia (David) R. Donnelly, Mary (Kevin) C. Kesler, and Martha M. Blaske; 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy M. Dennis; both of her parents; Son, Clarance R. Dennis, II; siblings LeRoy Bowman, Margaret Kuhn, and Bobbie Bowman; Grandchild, Tamra Dennis.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2021, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Topeka, Kansas.

Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11:30 am at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
