David Dean Johannes, 72, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021.

He was born August 21, 1949, in Marysville, Kansas, the son of Albert F. and Esther (Stohs) Johannes. He was a 1967 graduate of Marysville High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

David was employed by Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka for 41 years, retiring in August 25, 2009.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Topeka and a member of the VFW of Hanover, KS.

Survivors include his brother, Loren (Cathy) Johannes of Auburn, KS; three nieces, Becky Martin, Melissa Johannes and Rachael Brickey; and nephews, Mark, Jeremy, Nathan, Michael and Kevin Johannes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Sample and three brothers, Charlie, John and Jim.

David enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, bowling, boating, hunting, his “Santa Fe breakfast group” and his “lunch bunch”.

A funeral ceremony will be held at10:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 NW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66617. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., Sunday at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.

A graveside service with military honors will be 2:00 p.m., Monday at the Afton Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Waterville, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
