Melanie Kay Whitmore, 58, of Topeka, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee alongside her husband Scott E. Whitmore. Melanie was born August 7, 1963 in Iola, Kansas to Paul Ray and Saundra Sue (Anderson) Upshaw.

Melanie graduated from Garnett High School in 1981. She went on to attend Emporia State University graduating in 1985. On June 20, 1987 she married Scott Eugene Whitmore in Iola, Kansas.

Melanie worked as an accountant in the USD 501 Business Office for Topeka Public Schools since 2008. Melanie was a member of Grace Point Church where she served in the children’s ministry as well as on the connections team throughout her many years. Melanie had a servant’s heart that shone bright with joy and impacted so many within the community. Her most cherished title was Mom to her three daughters who she loved and encouraged through all of life’s milestones, big or small.

Melanie was preceded in death by her mother Saundra S. Upshaw and an infant brother Robert H. Upshaw. She is survived by her three daughters, Alicia Kenkel and husband Kevin of Overland Park, KS, Erica Whitmore of Topeka and Stephanie Whitmore of Kansas City, MO, her father Paul Upshaw of Iola, KS, Brothers Lentz Upshaw and his wife Amy of Manhattan, KS, Dennis Upshaw and wife Tiffanie of St. Louis, MO, and Mark Upshaw and Megan of Shawnee, KS and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, September 27, 2021 at Grace Point Church in Topeka, KS. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday September 26, 2021 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
