Scott graduated from Emporia High School in 1977. He went on to attend Emporia State University, Oklahoma University and Kansas University graduating with his degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science. On June 20, 1987 he married Melanie Kay Upshaw in Iola, Kansas.
Scott worked for the National Weather Service for many years before retiring in 2015. He was a member of Grace Point Church where he served on the connections team and helped maintain the church grounds. Scott had a love for the outdoors and took many trips with his family and friends to the farm in Lyon County. In addition to spending countless hours tending to the property he loved talking about his vision of bringing loved ones together by building a cabin. Scott most enjoyed spending time with his daughters while listening to their favorite music, watching the Chiefs play, and fishing.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Virginia Whitmore. He is survived by his three daughters, Alicia Kenkel and husband Kevin of Overland Park, KS, Erica Whitmore of Topeka and Stephanie Whitmore of Kansas City, MO, his sisters Becky Kearns of Eudora, KS, Marcia Marks and her husband Russell of Wellsville, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, September 27, 2021 at Grace Point Church in Topeka, KS. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday September 26, 2021 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
