Monika Kristine Funnell, 78, Topeka, Passed away Wednesday, July 28,, 2021 at The Healthcare Resort of Topeka.

She was born February 28, 1943 in Memel, Germany, the daughter of Erich and Emmy Fuehrer. The family, including her brother Peter, fled Germany and arrived in the United States in 1955, when she was just twelve. They settled in Darian, Connecticut.

She was active in her kids school activities, sports, 4-H and getting together with neighborhood friends and families. Monika also enjoyed reading, painting, crocheting, and visiting. She loved to visit.

Monika worked for 20+ years as a medical transcriptionist for Pediatrics PA & Cotton O’Neil before retiring.

Monika met her future husband while on a ski trip to Colorado. She married John R. Funnell on December 24, 1965. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by four children, Matthew Funnell, Mark Funnell (Melissa), Alyssa Gentry (Steve) and Rachel Stuewe (Andy) all of Topeka; her brother Peter Fuehrer, Broomfield, CO; nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 21 at 9:00 am with a Memorial service following at 10:00 am at the Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice or The Neuromuscular Access Initiative (NAI) to benefit Camp Milton, a camp for kids that have a neuromuscular disease and sent in care of Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
