Doyle E. Hanvy Sr., 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021.
He was born March 7, 1935, in Alto, Texas, the son of Robert and Ethyl (Gentry) Hanvy. He graduated from Alto High School in Alto, Texas.
He joined the United States Army on January 3, 1955 and proudly served until December 31, 1962 where he was honorably discharged.
He was known as "Papa Doyle" and a stranger to no one. He loved horses and was a true cowboy. He liked to play Texas Hold Em and make trips to the casino.
He was a very generous, loving and caring man and he was always there to help out anyone that needed it.
Doyle was employed by the Iron Worker, Local #10 as a Foreman and retired after 30 years.
Doyle married Josephine Armenthia Ditch on June 6, 1955 in Topeka, Kansas, she preceded him in death on August 16, 2012. Survivors include his children, Darrell Hanvy, Melissa Wilson, Doyse Manz, Doyle (Lori) Hanvy, Jr., and Joseph Newport; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and sisters Ruby Ray, Edna Myrl Grigsby, Donna Womack, and Sandra Wallace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Laurie Newport; brothers, James Kenith. Robert Alton-Morris and Horace twin infants and sisters, Edith Rae Thornton and Doyse -twin infant.
The family will greet friends during a reception from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Parker-Price Reception Center, 245 N.W. Independence Avenue, Topeka.
