In Memory Of
Doris Jeanne (Flowers) Mohler
1948 - 2019

Doris Jeanne (Flowers) Mohler, 71, of Silver Lake, died Sunday, March 17, 2019 peacefully at home, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Doris was born January 25, 1948, in Topeka, Kansas, to Ronald and Eldora (Reece) Flowers. She grew up in the Topeka area, and attended Topeka schools. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1966.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Wendell (of the home); and her two loving daughters, Angela (Topeka), and Pamela (Lawrence). Doris leaves behind a brother, Ron (Carole) Flowers of Colona, Ill.; and two sisters, Theodora Flowers of Carbondale, KS and Nettie (Scott) Haney of Mount Pleasant, TX. Other survivors include numerous in-laws, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Lawrence and Doris Mohler.

Doris was known by many for her bright smile, and wonderful sense of humor; which she carried with her until the very end. Doris enjoyed life, making the most of things even when dealt the worst things.
She was a loving mother, and a devoted farmer’s wife her entire life, and spent many years working in several banks and the Silver Lake School District, most recently as a paraprofessional at Silver Lake Grade School, until she retired in May of 2017.

In her spare time, Doris became an avid gardener, offering tours around the yard, and giving free starter plants to whomever asked. Her flowers were her pride and joy. She also enjoyed going to car shows, spending time at the farmer’s market and craft shows; and watching the Jayhawks, Chiefs, Royals, and Sporting Kansas City. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing anything from a lunch date, to a game of Bunco, or just a simple phone call. Doris was the kind of friend you could count on to bring a smile to your face. Her laugh will be greatly missed by many.

Per Doris’ request, cremation is planned and there will be no services. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Silver Lake High School Commons, 200 Rice Rd, Silver Lake, KS. Please bring photos, stories and memories to share.

In lieu of flowers, Doris asked that contributions be made in her honor to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604; Silver Lake High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Silver Lake Bank, P.O. Box 69, Silver Lake, KS 66539 or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Cir, Topeka, KS 66606.
