Jack had a 37 year career in law enforcement. After working for the El Dorado Police Department as the Deputy Director of Police and serving as the Chief of Police for the Paola Police Department, Jack went to work for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in 1969 and retired as assistant director in 1988. He immediately took over as Chief Enforcement Officer for Alcohol Beverage Control. Following his retirement from ABC, he enjoyed preparing taxes and teaching tax school for H&R Block.
Jack was an active member at Bethel Baptist Church, where he served up to his last days as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Jack started a weekly Men’s Prayer Breakfast and faithfully prepared breakfast for 42 years. Jack’s church friends were his second family.
Jack is survived by his wife Maurine, his daughter Gayla Ketron (Danny), his son Ed West (Cheryl), five grandkids Morgan Brown (Jared), Colby Ketron (fiancé Megan), Kaitlin West, Brent West, Lauren West, and one great-grandson Bowen Jack Brown.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Ann Fennell and Jean West.
Funeral services for Jack will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 4011 NE Kansas Avenue, on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 2:00pm with graveside services following at Rochester Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Bethel Baptist Church, 6:30-8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 4011 N.
