Della Frances McGie of Topeka, Kansas, was called home to her heavenly Father on September 23, 2018 at Thornton Place in West Topeka.

Della was born April 30, 1936, on a farm near Moran, Kansas, the daughter of Fred H. and Esther Bell Boeken. She lived on a farm near Moran with her grandmother, Carrie Frances Bigelow, and her uncle, Herman Bigelow. She graduated from Moran High School with the class of 1954. She lived in Iola, Kansas after graduation, working in Harts Restaurant where she met Wallace W. McGie. Della and Wallace were married November 26, 1955. They moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1959. She was a member of South Knollwood Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery department for over 46 years. She was an avid reader and had many hobbies, which included crosstitch and crocheted afghans and baby blankets, of which many were recipients of one of her special gifts.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Esther Boeken, grandmother Carrie Bigelow, uncle Herman Bigelow, son Galen Wayne McGie (Oct. 5, 1998), son-in-law, Tom Fillmore, brother James Ira Boeken, Sr. (Aug. 19, 2018), half-sister, Joann DeFoor (Feb. 14, 1990) and step-sisters and brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Wallace; five daughters, Denise (Sam) Underwood, Salina, Kansas; Toni (Tim) Chasteen, Jackson, Missouri; Cindy Herrera, Topeka; Randi (Pat) Kilburg, Raytown, Missouri and Jolene Crist, Euless, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brother, John (Diana) Vest, Ellinwood, Kansas and a half-sister, Lucille (Corrine) Nelson, wife of James Ira Boeken, Sr.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at South Knollwood Baptist Church, 1813 S.W. 29th, Topeka. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Osage City Cemetery, Osage City, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to South Knollwood Baptist Church.
