Doris Alena McMickell, daughter of Emmeretta Rankin and Harvey D. McMickell, was born September 4, 1922 at Kiro, Shawnee Co. Kansas. She lived in Wyoming and Ness Co. Kansas before returning to Silver Lake, Kansas where she graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1940.

She Married Dwight Lewis Uhl in June 1940. He preceded her in death in Sept. 23, 1996. To this union were born 6 children. One daughter Carolyn Cook, preceded her in death in April 1978. One son, Thomas W. Uhl of Wakarusa, Ks also died March 20, 2001.

Surviving are sons, Donald Dwight Uhl of Topeka and Jerry Lee Uhl of Berryton; 2 daughters, Marjorie Dickson of Carbondale and Nancy Vanaken of Eckert, Co. One sister Lois Lorene Crawshaw of Eudora, Ks and numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alena Patterson and two step-grandchildren, Randy and Bobbi Taylor.

She was a homemaker, living in several communities, Wakarusa, Berryton and Scranton, KS. She worked for the Dept. of Health and Environment for 25 years. After retiring she was a home health worker.

She loved to make quilts and belonged to Kansas Quilters organization and Santa Fe Trails Quilt guild.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Parker-Price Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Silver Lake cemetery.
